I stumbled upon this site today while running a quick search through google. It looked curious and I decided to look into what exactly this site was about. It took about five minutes to figure out this was a critique site so I figured "Hell, This looks kind of interesting" but when I looked at your "Circles" of critique I was a little confused. It seemed that whomever it was that decided to order out the circles had done so after taking a few shots of bourbon and a baseball bat or two to the head. Now assuming that the site was based off of The Inferno I think its safe to believe that the circles get progressively worse the lower one goes. As such I couldn't believe some of the orders that had been setup.I figured I'd outline them and see if someone could toss me a minor explanation as to why they are in this order:
Purgatory- The purpose of this section seems a little irrelevant, perhaps I'm just talking insanity here but isn't it pretty easy to tell whether a comic is terrible or not? I looked at the comic, the ONLY comic in this category and it was good enough that I don't think it warranted any spot on this site, setting up a purgatory section seems a little overzealous, I'd suggest waiting until the comic actually does something warranting being put into a REAL category before adding it to the site or merging it with the 1st circle.
First Circle- No real problems with this one, I'd suggest merging it with the "Purgatory" section though as both seem to serve the same purpose.
Second Circle- "The Sexually Lustful" When I saw the Title of the section I was a little surprised to see that it was only at the second circle, I figured you would cite comics like "Two Kinds" or other comics that have heavier than usual Sex Scene usage. This lead to confusion at the placement of the section until I actually looked at the web comics in it. "The Wotch"… Seriously? I'm familiar with a good number of web comics some popular some not and I've seen my share that have crossed the line and I've stopped reading but "The Wotch" definitely wasn't one of them. It appears someone confused the "TG Comics" with the "Sexually Gluttonous" web comics. I'd be hard pressed to find a SINGLE scene involving sex or anything even remotely of sexual nature. It seems that whoever decided to create the section was professing whatever bigoted view they had and judged that a comic that had occasional comedic use of TG was explicitly terrible. Silly me to assume this site was going to be objective and fair
Third Circle- "Furry and Anime Webcomics" Again, it seems to me rather funny that someone is judging the comic based on nothing more than a genre. I suppose that whoever the Webmaster who designed the site was decided that what he likes was of course what EVERYONE likes. Who would ever be vain enough to think that their opinion might matter. All hail the mighty Luigiian! Thank you Luigiian, for without you we of society might actually have to form an opinion that contours to our tastes and not your mighty lordships infallible tastes! We of the internet world couldn't choose our desktop background without your almighty text their to decide for us! Putting the rampant sarcasm aside though, it seems that you meant, or atleast I hope you meant to try to organize the site by some sort of content section and weren't actually ranking comics based on what their genre is, because I figured this site was created to inform people on webcomics and not tell them what you believe the perfect web comic is and leave it to the reader to decide for themself. I figured that you, the reader of this, would know that what is perhaps funny to you might seem stupid/silly/odd to someone else.
Fourth Circle- "Video Game Web comics" SEE PREVIOUS COMMENT
Fifth Circle- "The Pretentious" Nothing seems wrong here, if anything this seems like a great category, comics that are pretentious and proud should be put in a category by themselves and rated as such. I only wish the rest of the site could be based on content-matter like this and not genre.
Sixth Circle- "Heretics" Again an EXCELLENT section, I can't speak for everyone but I don't know of anyone personally who enjoys having opinions thrown at them and forced down their throat and propaganda webcomics seem to try and do just that.
Seventh Circle- "The Violent" Well a lot of web comics get violent from time to time but I suppose this category is at least mildly objective although the comic in their belongs in some sort of "miserably Drawn" category in my opinion.
Eighth Circle- "The Prejudiced" Based on what I saw in the other categories I'd suggest that badwebcomics.wikidot.com belongs in this category. Just because a comic is "Furry" or "TG"doesn't necessarily make it crap, and judging comics or rating them based on your personal tastes is reprehensible. This site should give out opinions about the subject matter and not the concept. I've read plenty of "Human Protagonist" comics that look like their put together by two year olds and "Furry" comics that are really in depth, well drawn and simply amazing. It might help actually reading a comic before simply talking about how much you hate the idea of a "furry" or "TG" or "Violent" comic
Ninth Circle- Theirs nothing wrong with having a "Most Hated Section" as long as you provide some half decent reasons and not simply it's "Gay".
That said I would like to offer a few suggestions for objective categories that might interest you, categories such as:
Update Schedule( Is the comic updated frequently? Is it currently on hiatus? Are "Breaks" common? How lazy is the author?)
Propaganda( Does the comic ceaselessly try to force feed you the authors opinion on current events or politics?)'
The Art ( Does the comic look rushed? Could the authors drawing skills use a little help? Is the authors style lacking?)
Grammar( Does the comic look like it was spell checked by a german shepard? Does the author fail to run things through spell check ever?)
Plot( Does the PLOT and not the subject matter leave something to be desired? Does the plot have gaps in it or lack continuity?)
Prejudice( Does the comic seem bigoted or racist?)
Sexual Explicitness ( Does the comic have more sex scenes than plot scenes? Does it belong on a porn site?)
I know that the categories were, at least mildly, based on Dante's design but in all honesty, Dante's design doesn't reasonably fit the categories that should, in my opinion, be put up. Almost all of the classes seem to be based off of prejudiced ideas.
Then again, this is all my opinion, its quite likely that my suggestions are just going to be met with flames, or even more likely ignored completely but for the few of you who have read this far and put in the effort of getting all the way down here from my massive block of text, Thank You, Thank you for taking the time to listen to what one guy had to say, Thank you for spending a second to see why, in my opinion, the categories are flawed and Thank you for perhaps taking to heart, or coming up with suggestions to better the site.
I didn't intend to offend anyone by any of this, I intended to give a few suggestions where improvement is needed, much like your reviews of comics try to do… (Except the Paragraph on the Third Circle… I got a little carried away there but the point had to be made >_>)
